Liv in the new Freo

Oct 21, 2016

Thinking of making the move to Fremantle? If you like your cities historic, eclectic, cosmopolitan and liveable, you’d be hard pressed to do much better than Freo. Recently named one of the world’s top ten places to visit in Lonely Planet’s Best in Travel, Fremantle is being transformed with major projects like the $220m Kings Square project set to rejuvenate the heart of Fremantle.

Creative, boho and arty, Fremantle has a great cafe culture, markets, galleries, restaurants, bars, pubs and microbreweries, live music and festivals. In addition to easy access via great public transport links and burgeoning public cycle ways, Curtin University professor of sustainability Peter Newman points to Fremantle as a prime example of a city whose ‘walkability’ is the key to it being such a cool, creative and connected cultural hub.

It has a fascinating convict and maritime history, and is still a functioning port. It has beautiful beaches and marinas, and thanks to the refreshment offered by the ‘Fremantle Doctor’ it has breezes strong enough to power the needs of even the most extreme wind and kite surfers.

Investing in a Freo property is not only a great lifestyle choice, but could also turn out to be a wise financial move. According to recent reports, the market for homes in Fremantle is bucking the Perth property slump. In particular, the Fremantle apartment market has remained steady for the past five years, despite the overall Perth housing market nearing the bottom of the cycle.
